Law Ting Holm, Shetland

128 Law Ting Holm, Tingwall, Tingstead mound HU417435
The mound at the N end of the loch is traditionally pointed out as the meeting place of the senior legislative assembly for all of Shetland, in the years preceding the Scottish take-over of the islands. An artificial causeway leads through marshy ground to a natural knoll, which is almost surrounded by water. Such a location, where the deliberations of the assembly could be seen but not necessarily overheard, is typical of Tingstead sites throughout the N Atlantic area.
